Big Relaxation in a Small Package

This is the pillow, but not me. I rarely wear the mankini... rarely

If you’ve read my posts before, you know that I take a pretty holistic view regarding health and I’m always trying different approaches to speed recovery and enhance my general well-being.

Because stress control is such an important factor in getting the most from of any type of exercise or nutrition program, I’m interested in any method that claims to help in decreasing its damaging effects.

Two treatments that I’ve used with good results over the years for physical and psychological relaxation are aromatic and thermal therapy (both hot and cold).

For example, I’ll put a drop of lavender oil on my bedroom pillow to elicit a calming effect or warm a small pillow filled with flax seeds in the microwave and lay against the area needing attention. But I have yet to combine to the two… until recently.

I came across the Eye Pillow Company a few weeks ago. Their website features beautifully constructed eye pillows in multiple configurations that are specifically designed to support healing for many stress related condition (in my case, tension headaches). With various choices in fabrics, shapes and aromatic properties, there’s a combination to appeal to just about anyone.

The one I chose was the Blue Zen with the Headache No More aromatic blend; a satin covered, ergonomically-shaped pillow filled with eucalyptus and peppermint scented flax seeds (all organic!).

Thanks to a fractured neck as a teenager and too many recent hours at the keyboard I was in just the right frame of discomfort to try it the afternoon I received it in the mail.

It smelled pleasant; not too strong or too weak and the weight of the flax seeds applied just enough force to the key pressure points located on my forehead, around the eyes and temples.

That first experience was pleasant, but nothing remarkable really. I became physically relaxed and my headache diminished somewhat.

However, it was the second time that I used it (after reading on the website that this particular pillow may work best when chilled in the refrigerator) that really showcased its value!

With the decrease in air quality in the area I live, I’m one of those people who often awaken in the morning with nasal congestion and swollen eyes.

Remembering that I had put the eye pillow in the fridge the evening before, I got up just long enough to retrieve it and lay back down in bed, placing it gently into place.

The effect was immediate and quite stunning!

The aroma from the eucalyptus and peppermint was strong, but not over-powering; pleasantly stimulating my nervous system. The coolness of the flax seed pressing against my eyes and temples relieved the swelling quicker than any other method I’ve tried before.

I’m so pleased with the eye pillow that a new part of my daily routine is to spend 10 minutes each morning visualizing my goals while relaxing with the eye pillow in place.

Visit their website at www.eyepillowcompany.com and find the pillow that’s right for you. With most models at less than $15.00, it’s a small investment that could provide years worth of healthy benefits.
