Quick Tip-Keep It to Your Self First!

by Patrick on October 5, 2009

It’s a very common practice in personal goal-setting programs to tell someone close to you what your goals are. In this way, you can create a sense of responsibility that will help you follow through with achieving them.

This is a good technique. But sometimes a person gets so caught up in accomplishing the goal for the other person, that they miss out on the satisfaction of realizing the goal for themselves.

The next time you set a personal goal; for example, getting to the gym consistently, avoiding eating late at night or identifying stressors that you want to remove from your life, don’t tell someone your intentions right off.

Start on the objective and for the first few days just give yourself credit for your ability to stick to your plan and savor every little victory that is leading to your success in achieving that goal.

Let your Self appreciate the pleasure of accomplishment before you share it with others.

And don’t get hung up on selfishness and egotism. There’s a difference (more on that in a future post).

You’re capable of great things. Enjoy!
